The Tuscan city of Siena is widely known for it's large Piazza del Campo, home of the famous horse race Palio di Siena. This race takes place twice a year, July and August, and has been run since medieval times. The event draws huge crowds that gather to watch the racers from the neighborhoods of Siena compete while adorned in the traditional colors of their factions.

Famous Italian artists and sculptors, such as Bernini, worked on this magnificent structure that exemplified the power and wealth of Siena during it's prime.
