Each time I have visited Venice I am completely amazed by how beautiful and magical this city on the water actually is.

Venice is like no other city in the world and any trip to Italy should include a stay here. Everyday tens of thousands of tourists flock to Venice. Most stay only until the late afternoon. My recommendation to everyone is that you stay in Venice for a couple of days in order to experience the city during the day and at night.

Venice is made of of many small islands connected with bridges or accessible only by boat. When in Venice be prepared to walk and explore on foot because no cars or motorized vehicles are present in the city.

Canals of all sizes run through Venice like a maze. Gondolas peacefully navigate the smaller canals as well as the Grand Canal.

Transportation in Venice is all on the water. Here the Vaporetto takes passengers to all stops along the Grand Canal. The Vaporetto is the 'water bus' of Venice and cost about $30 for a two day pass.

The Bridge of Sighs. So named because when prisoners were sentenced to prison they crossed this bridge on the way to their cells and the windows of the bridge provided their last view of sunlight. Upon seeing it they let out a sigh of despair.

Recently large cruise ships have been permitted to dock in Venice but concerns over such large vessels navigating in these fragile waters is prompting the Italians to reconsider this practice. Hopefully they will ban these huge ships from the harbor of Venice.
