One of the most beautiful museums in Rome and a must see while you are in the Eternal City is the Musei Capitolini. Before you even walk in through the entrance the beauty of the museum's architecture and statues that adorn the massive piazza is a magnificent sight. The piazza and many of the museum's buildings were designed by Michelangelo. Who else?

I have visited this museum on three occasions and I never tire of touring the rooms and seeing the art. Musei Capitolini boasts one of the most beautiful collections of art in the world.

The museum sits atop of the Capitoline Hill and reaching it requires that you climb the massive staircase to access the piazza and entrance. Viewing the museum from below at street level you realize this is going to be a special experience.

Flanking both sides of the museum's staircase are giant statues that add to the true grandeur of the museum.

The beautiful piazza has become a favorite place to conduct weddings and have wedding photos taken. On any given day the piazza becomes a most memorable place for couples to start their lives together.

The Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius stands in bronze glory at the center of the piazza. This statue however has a secret, it is a reproduction. To see the original you must enter the museum.
