On many of the Paris bridges lovers have adopted the tradition of writing their names or messages on pad locks, locking them to the bridge railings, and tossing the key into the river.

Parisians believe they started this tradition but I'm pretty sure I had seen this done in Venice many years before. However, the Parisians have taken it to an entirely new level.
